Hello there mate. I see you are up to your old tricks again. very impressive web site Luke. You truly have a gift for enjoying life. You inspire me. I hope you are doing well these days. I miss the rants we used to have. Drop me a note sometime and tell me how you are.
Rich B.
Hi…I’m considering going with Cirtex. Are you still happy with them? Thanks!
Yes, very happy with them. Performance is good, have not had any outages. Support is very good, they jump on problems quickly.
The only issues I have had is where the CRON daemon on the server gets hung up, and they have to restart it. But this has not happened for a few weeks now.
Good Luck.
Awesome! Thanks, Luke!
Jaysus! Awesome site , great to hear from you and that you are doing justice to life in God’s country…

Hello Patrycja & Luke,

Thanks Anna,
Appreciate your note. Patrycja will send you a private email.
Make sure you stop by and comment frequently 😉 There is always a new photo, esp in the Moblog!
Hello again old friend. I’m once again overwhelmed by your sense of expressionism and the free spirit you share with the world. You are a genuine artist.
Luke,
I’m hoping this message will actually get through to you, as I noticed that the last post anyone put up on this site was October 2007 !!
About a week ago (August 13, 2009) you posted a comment on James Wilson’s blog about using the Weather Widget – I too use this same plug-in on WordPress and I have been wanting to be able to use “multiple” instances of the same widget to display weather in more than one location.
You left a description of how you did it on another website (at least I presume it was you that did it), and I created that secondary directory (folder) as you described calling it widget-weather2. The problem however is that the new widget DOES NOT show up on the Widget Admin panel – even though I made all the changes in the .php file, so there must be something else that you did in addition to allow the widget to show up so that I can add it to my sidebar panel when I am in Admin ????
Can you please tell me what else you did in the .php file or any other instructions I need. I have created a directory, I have modified the content of the php file, but there are other entries in the .php file that I think need to be modified in order that it shows up in WordPress on the widget admin panel so that I can *ADD* it – but I don’t know how, or where to find this.
Please help.
Thanks,
Mike
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the note.
You do need to go into the WordPress plugins admin panel and activate the second widget plugin (as it is a seperate instance of the plugin)
Here is an example of the 2 widgets in action: http://aldo.hartog-walker.com
Just incase there was something else I forgot, here is a copy of my 2nd widget PHP file & directory. http://doherty.net.au/blog/wp-includes/images/weather-widget2.zip
Drop me another note if you find any problems with this working.
Cheers,
Luke
Hi Luke,
I sent you an email under separate message. I got the two widgets installed and available in the Admin Panel, but there is still a minor problem that you have left out somewhere that I addressed in the email to you.
Both widgets now display on my website, but they show the EXACT SAME DATA in each one, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to change them to show different info. I’ve edited them independantly, but nothing seems to work after doing a “SAVE CHANGES” on the Edit.
HELP 🙂
Cheers,
M.
Hi Luke,
Not sure if you caught up with the email I sent you, but the “fix” was only partially correct based on your last note.
Refer to my email and let me know if you have any thoughts.
Cheers,
M.
Luke,
Are you getting the follow-up question that I’ve posed ? I haven’t seen any response from you. The second widget is now available – you neglected to show me one update in the .php file, *BUT* the two widgets show up with exactly the same data in them, even though I tried to enter different locations (locid).
Can you please tell me why this is happening and how to correct that problem ???
Cheers,
M.
Hi there –
I came upon your blog because of a post you made on a forum re: modifying the code for a weather plugin.
I followed your directions, and everything works…except the 2nd instance of the widget doesn’t appear in the list.
Am I doing something wrong? I replaced all instances of the weather_widget to weather_widget2, then changed the php file name to weather2.php.
I know how busy you must be w/ your little one (I have 2 myself)…so if you can’t help, I understand.
Thanks in advance!
Mio
Hi Mio,
You do need to go into the WordPress plugins admin panel and activate the second widget plugin (as it is a seperate instance of the plugin)
Just incase there was something else I forgot, here is a copy of my 2nd widget PHP file & directory. http://doherty.net.au/blog/wp-includes/images/weather-widget2.zip
Drop me another note if you find any problems with this working.
Cheers,
Luke
Luke,
I noticed that another resource asked the same question that I had twice previously – and I sent you a follow-up note to which you *never* replied 🙁
I have the two widgets installed, and both appear on the page – *BUT* the problem is they both show up with EXACTLY the same data and location. I have modified them separately, but it WILL NOT WORK. Any suggestions and can you show me a screen shot of the widgets from an existing application where it does work ????
Cheers,
M.
Hi Luke –
Thanks for the reply — however, I’m having the same issue as Mike. The 2nd weather widget shows in my admin panel, it’s active, but it shows the same data set as the first widget.
Also, on my site, the icons are much smaller and spread out — I really like the way your widget is displayed. Any tips here?
Hope you can help us!
Mio
Luke, I’m happy to see that somebody else has the same issue. I’ve sent several messages to Luke regarding this over the past couple of months, but I have not had any response at all – not sure why that is the case ????
He initially responded to me within 24 hours, but then I never heard from him again when I described the problem with both widgets showing up – and exactly the same data. I have tried everything I can think of – and I do have the correct LocId and title different for both widgets, but it will not display them properly – it shows the same information in both widgets.
Luke – HELP PLEASE !!! Can you show Mio and myself exactly what to enter in the .php code or a screen shot of the widgets and the admin panel with the correct setup ???
I have both widgets appearing on my blog – but both of them have the same data ? Why will they not display the two different locations properly, just as I have entered them ?????
Cheers,
M.
Hi there!
Good to hear from you! I tried to ring you back on my birthday but I must have rang at some ungodly hour.
Email me at @utu.fi so we can catch up properly!
OMG Mike, no need to be such a pushy and demanding JERK about it. Tell me, how much did Luke’s help cost you? Oh, that’s right, NADA! Get back in your box and stop wasting other people’s time.
@Wallo – are you freakin’ kidding me. What colour is the sky in your delusional world????
For your information “Einstein”…if you go back, and actually read the posts I put up, not once am I critical, overbearing, or a “JERK” as you put it, and in fact quite the opposite. I beg and plead with the owner of this particular plug-in to provide some additional insight into a question that I’m not the only one that has posed, and we are simply looking for an answer to that question.
By the way…why are you screaming at me with BOLD letters????? Didn’t you have your corn flakes this morning for breaky!!
You might just want to check out the dates on the posts that were previously put up by myself and the other commenters. You will quickly notice they are almost 2 years old, and we have never had a reply to them…so now that you’ve had a delicious slice of humble pie – think twice the next time before you berate somebody when you haven’t got a F*CKING CLUE what your talking about.
Cheers,
M.
Easy guys. 🙂 This is a friendy place.
BTW, I am not the developer of the plugin, which is part of the reason why you have not had a response from me. I am just another user of the plugin. I had a need to display 2 locations so modified the setup so that I could do that. I am not a programmer. If I had the time, I would help but I am pretty busy at the moment. You will probably have better success with the developer himself.
The developer of the plugin can be found here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/weather-widget/
Luke,
That was my intent right from the get-go, and I appreciate your update. Thanks for posting the developers site – I’ll check it out and see if there’s any info on having multiple plug-ins. The single instance works on my site without issue, and so I’m certain that leveraging multiple instances is a simple coding issue…just to find out what it is represents the current challenge 🙂
Thanks again, and BTW, that bike tour looked pretty interesting. 9,000 kms. Quite the ride !!!
Cheers,
M.
Hi Luke – Dan Walker here mate – its been a while I know…
How are you doing these days? Working in Singapore now? Things going pretty well still in Wellington NZ.. Starting to do a little more contracting.. and on that note – I wondered if you’d mind being a quick character referee for me (at least as far as my Sydney experience at IHG)? No worries either way, but if so maybe text me your number.
Cheers
DAN
Hi Dan! Doing well thanks. How about you mate?
Hi Luke
The Bureau of Meteorology is interested in one of your photos (details below) for possible use in the upcoming publication, The Atlas of Groundwater-Dependent Ecosystems. I have downloaded the picture from your site but need to ask, (1) is it OK to use the image in the publication and associated promotional material? and (2) do you have a copy of the image as a larger file size?
Hope to hear back from you. Cheers.
