Luang Prabang

Spent a few days exploring Luang Prabang by bicycle, foot and boat, along with completing a bunch of administrative tasks.  People often assume that this is one big holiday, and it often looks like that, but there are hours of admin that need to be completed too, so I’ve been in-front of the laptop planning, organising, updating, researching, arranging visas, permits, plotting routes, checking track conditions, weather, diplomatic checks, bike, banking, etc.  I try to stay on top of all this stuff regularly, so it doesn’t build up and require entire days of sitting still.   These things take even longer to complete when the Internet is far from reliable.

Luang Prabang is a great little town, and you can understand why so many travellers love it.  It is beautiful, peaceful and geared for tourism without being too tourist focused.   Walking around the town you can hear the monks chanting in the many temples dotted all over the town, it is very serene.  To further enhance it’s beauty, the mountains surrounding the town and the Mekong cutting its swathe between the peaks is really an amazing sight.

  1. Looks very peaceful! Getting very close to China. Hope all paperwork are alright now.

    • Yes! Quite excited about that now Wentao. I’m only 300km from the border to China, although I am headed back to Thailand tomorrow to pickup new tyres for the bike and do some preventative maintenance. The China permits are not completely approved yet, so I’m a little nervous about that given it is less than 2 weeks until entry, but I’ve been assured it will all be ok. Fingers crossed!
