Chiang Mai – Chiang Rai
2nd May 2014 188km 34’C
Another short ride day from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai today, with a few nice corners and hills along the way.
The bike is a bit heavier now, after I picked up a spare set of tyres in Chiang Mai, which are now strapped to the back of the bike, to be used once the current set wear out. I had planned that the current tyres would last until Mongolia, but I have doubts that they will make it that far, given the current rate of wear, so the new tyres might be installed sooner rather than later.
Stopping at Wat Rong Khun (White Temple) outside of Chiang Rai was interesting, and in the blazing sun it was so bright and reflective that I really needed sunglasses, or welding googles.
Found a decent and cheap hotel in the Diamond Hill Inn near the centre of Chiang Rai and took a walk around the night market before retiring for the night.
Great pictures as usual. How many KM’s do the tyres normally last?
It really depends on a few things, how hard I ride, how much stuff I’m carrying and the type of tyre. Some last longer than others. Usually the rear lasts half as long as the front. The current tyres have lasted 14,000km so far, and should make it to 17,000. The previous rear tyre lasted 18,000km. I’m using a German tyre, Heidenau, which is known for being hard wearing.
Cool, learning something new each day 🙂
