Kanchanaburi – Ayutthaya
1st April 2014 170km 39’C
Today was a tough ride. It was stinking hot and humid. The road was bad, very bumpy and alot of trucks. It was not a whole lot of fun. But what really got to me, was I was tired despite what I thought was a good sleep and I had naturally woken up at 530am.
So after riding into Ayutthaya, I was completely flat. I’d hit the wall. I pulled the bike into the second guesthouse that I saw, called Promthon Mansion. When I stepped off the bike, the owner came out and said “you look knackered” and she advised that I was feeling so flat because it was so humid. So I parked the bike, had a quick shower and went to explore the historic temples of Ayutthaya, the old capital of the Kingdom of Thailand.
The ruins of Ayutthaya are exceptional, and it was a delight to explore them with so few tourists around, despite the oppressive heat. Even the dogs had dug holes in the ground to try to find some respite from the wicked temperatures.
I enjoyed the exploring and had a quick swim at the hotel, followed by a traditional Thai massage, the masseuse really going to town and giving me a workout, but my muscles felt better for it.
Tomorrow I’m off to the metropolis of Bangkok to sort out the Mongolian visa.
No cold beverages in the evening to help with the heat?
Wow, great pictures… Both the buddha pictures are pretty awesome. Hang in there! It was especially hot in Singapore yesterday too… the kinda day when you feel your skin starting to burn. However, today is nice and overcast. Hopefully you’ll get some respite from the heat soon too. Also, our favourite stand-up-for-every-conference-call colleague is visiting. So perhaps you prefer the heat? =)
