Bangi (KL) – Penang

Today was an uneventful ride up the NS highway.   Nothing special, other than hot!   I stopped for fuel twice and while having a drink in a petrol station a guy nearly knocked the bike over, reversing his car into it!   I managed to see what was happening just as his bumper contacted the right pannier and yelled out at him.   One of those Malaysian cars with windows tinted so black you can’t see in (or out) of the windows.   After his wife explained to him that he was about to knock the motorbike over (and put a nasty scratch in the back of his new car) he was very apologetic.

So rode onto Georgetown, Penang, where my dear friend Jack Tan put in a call to one of his many contacts at the G Hotel, Penang. The General Manager Michael Hanratty was able to oblige a room at a very reasonable rate, along with executive club access.   Talk about lux!!!  So after a luxurious shower, washed my clothes and now enjoying a glass of champagne and canapes from the 15th floor lounge with a view over Georgetown and Butterworth.  This may be the last lux hotel stay for a long while.  Maybe.  The staff here are absolutely brilliant, with a beautiful hotel, I’m feeling very spoilt and make the day fighting traffic and heat, feel very relaxed now.

Now heading out for some of that Penang food that is always such a delight!

  1. Loved the photos. Thought you’d be in a tent or a roadside motel for the night but there you were having champagne and canapes! Good luck for the next leg.
